Council supports plans for Dublin Bay film studio

May 25, 2017

The councils priorities are maximising housing delivery and securing the development of Dublin Port

Dublin City Council has agreed to support plans for the Dublin Bay Studio project on the Poolbeg Peninsula.

A motion was passed calling for the studio plan to be included as a possible use under the mixed use zoning on the lands which are owned by Dublin Port.

The plan would involve sound stages, digital services, workshop areas and back lots covering 18 acres on lands that are not earmarked for housing as part of the Strategic Development Zone.

Councillors considering the SDZ plan passed a motion stating that the city council will actively engage with all the relevant stakeholders to explore the opportunity for a Film Studio and associated uses to locate within the proposed SDZ area.

However the motion also says the priorities are maximising housing delivery and securing the strategic development of Dublin Port as Irelands most strategic and largest port.

The Dublin Bay Studio plan would require the agreement of the Dublin Port Company.

In a statement, the promoters of the Dublin Bay Studios plan welcomed the decision.
